This plugin allows you to update statistics from your vSphere environment to your WordPress blog. The following are steps to install and configure.
Download WP Plugin
Download CLI Tool
Step 1. – Install the WordPress Plugin
You must be running at least WP 2.9 or above.
Once installed and activated click on the new Settings page ‘vSphere Stats’
This page will show you the key for your plugin as well as allow you to generate a new one. It also displays the current stats thought these will be blank on a fresh install.
Copy the key to notepad or another text editor for later.
Step 2. – Install the Command Line Tool
You don’t really install the tool as much as unzip and place where you want to run it. The tool needs .Net 3.5 SP1 installed. The command line tool has two mode:
1. Wizard Mode:
VSPHERESTATS [-w] %PATH%
Starts the configuration wizard. You must supply %PATH% where config will be saved [i.e. c:\users\nick\documents\nick.xml]
2. Run mode:
VSPHERESTATS [-r] %PATH%”)
Runs update service using the configuration file supplied in %PATH% [i.e. c:\users\nick\documents\nick.xml]
Once you have created a config file you may run the tool manually or schedule using task scheduler in Windows. The Wizard mode will ask for the key from your Workpress plugin best way is to paste from the text editor. It will also ask for the following:
VCenter DNS/IP [like: 192.168.1.101 or vcenter.weaverlab.local]
username / password for VCenter [password is encrypted when stored]
Root URL of your WordPress blog [like: http://nickapedia.com/wordpress] – Do not include a trailing slash.
After you run the tool in Run mode go back and check the Settings page of the plugin. You should see stats updated and last update defined.
Step 3. – Install the Widget
I won’t waste to much time on this on. Go to your Appearance->Widgets page and look for vSphere Stats widget in the middle. Drag into the sidebar of your choice and configure what stats you want to display. You may drag multiple widgets and display different stats on each. make sure and name them appropriate for your needs.
